Learn How To Gain Control Over Your Sinful Habits By Replacing Them Beneficial Practices.
We understand that dependency is not just a battle with substances or behaviors; it’s often a deep-seated struggle involving emotional, mental, and spiritual turmoil. People may turn to dependent behaviors as a way to cope with life’s stresses, past traumas, or even feelings of emptiness and disconnection. These challenges are profound, but they are not insurmountable with the right support and guidance.
Dependency can stem from various sources, including stress, anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, and a search for meaning or escape. It is often a symptom of deeper emotional and spiritual wounds.
Scriptural Foundations for Healing
At Impact Family Christian Counseling & Wellness Center, we anchor our approach in the timeless wisdom of the Bible, which offers both understanding and hope for those trapped in the cycle of dependency. For instance, Romans 7:18 states, “For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” This verse highlights the human struggle with sin and weakness, reflecting the challenges faced by those battling dependency.
Similarly, Psalm 147:3 reassures us, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This verse underscores God’s promise to heal and restore, offering hope and a pathway to recovery through spiritual renewal.
Christian Spiritual Tools for Overcoming Dependency
Our counseling services incorporate Christian spiritual tools that foster a deep dependency and intimacy with the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. This spiritual journey involves several key elements:
- Prayer and Meditation: Engaging in regular prayer and meditation can fortify one’s spiritual life and provide the strength needed to overcome addictive behaviors.
- Scripture Study: Regularly reading and reflecting on the Bible helps individuals find guidance, comfort, and encouragement in God’s promises.
- Community Support: Being part of a faith-based community provides accountability, mutual support, and love, all of which are crucial for lasting recovery.
- Professional Counseling: Our trained Christian counselors offer wisdom and assistance, using therapeutic techniques informed by scripture and faith-based practices. They work with individuals to develop coping strategies that align with Christian values and teachings.
Developing Dependency and Intimacy with the Holy Spirit
At the core of our approach is the development of a personal and intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 tells us, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” By cultivating this relationship, individuals learn to rely not on their own strength, but on the power of God to renew and transform their lives.
CELEBRATE RECOVERY 12 STEPS
Dependency Recovery Program should be practiced with the support of a Christian Counselor, Mentor, Support Group, or Worship Community. One of the key aspects of healthy living is learning you cannot be the person you were meant to be without help. God uses gifted and loving people to empower us.
- 1. We admitted we were powerless over our dependencies and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.
Scripture: I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Romans 7:18 NIV
- 2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Scripture: For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Philippians 2:13 NIV
- 3. We made a decision to turn our lives and our wills over to the care of God.
Scripture: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 NIV
- 4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Scripture: Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Lamentations 3:40 NIV
- 5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Scripture: Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16a NIV
- 6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Scripture: Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10 NIV
- 7. We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings.
Scripture: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV
- 8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
Scripture: Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 NIV
- 9. We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Scripture: Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 NIV
- 10. We continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
Scripture: So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 1 Corinthians 10:12
- 11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us, and power to carry that out.
Scripture: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3:16a NIV
- 12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and practice these principles in all our affairs.
Scripture: Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore them gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Galatians 6:1 NIV

What Is Christian Counseling?
- Christian counseling is confidential, Bible-based counseling by one trained and experienced in both pastoral and counseling ministry.
- Christian counseling is not designed to treat severe mental illness. We do not perform psychiatric or psychological evaluations, nor prescribe medication.
- The Christian counselor uses prayer and scripture to welcome God’s presence in the healing process.
- A typical counseling session lasts one to two hours. After the first meeting, the counselor will make recommendations for follow-up appointments, growth assignments, Christian spiritual practices of grace, and participation in other support ministries, well as a fellowship with a local corporate or house church, or small group ministry.
